Shahid Afridi has said that Sarfraz Ahmed should be retained as Pakistan cricket team’s captain till World Cup 2019.

Sarfraz Ahmed’s captaincy and strategies in the Asia Cup 2018 have come under criticism.

“It will be cruel to strip Sarfraz Ahmed from the captaincy on the basis of the team’s performance in the 2018 Asia Cup,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.

The former captain urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to name Sarfraz Ahmed for the mega event in 2019 as soon as possible.

“This way, there will be no confusion among the players,” he added.

He was taken aback by the news that Fawad Alam was not selected for the team for the UAE series against Australia.

“Alam should have been picked for Pakistan A’s warm-up match against Australia if he was not given a chance in the national team,” Afridi said.
