Tax non-filers may not get commercial power connections

If you don’t file your taxes, you may not be given a power connection to your factory.

The government is now considering making changes so that non-filers won’t be given commercial connections.

“We want to tighten the loop,” said Finance Minister Asad Umar on the floor of the national assembly. “We will hopefully make some modifications.”

The Economic Coordination Committee in Islamabad, which makes major decisions for the government, will be looking into pricing electricity at Rs2. Nepra, the power regulatory authority, has suggested a price over three rupees.
